Lower Elementary

"If help and salvation are to come, they can only come from the children,
for the children are the makers of men. "

Lower Elementary (6-9 Years)
This program offers a high degree of individualized instruction and work. The lessons are concrete at first; then the child is shown how to work in the abstract. Many unique Montessori materials are used to help the child make this transition. The children do not just learn basic skills; they learn to apply those skills in order to expand their knowledge. In the process, each child uses and develops a precious possession: his/her reasoning mind. The children are given lessons in many areas not necessarily included in the standard school curriculum, and exploration and research can take the child into much greater depth than is achieved in a standard classroom. Much of the work is done spontaneously; therefore, a child's knowledge is more likely to become a part of himself/herself. Each child is helped to integrate various aspects of the curriculum, so that he/she can better see relationships between physical, biological, and cultural phenomena.

"...the secret of good teaching is to regard the children 's intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown, to grow under the heat of flaming imagination. Our aim therefore is not merely to make the children understand, and still less to force them to memorize, but so to touch their imagination as to enthuse them to their inmost core. We do not want complacent children but eager ones...
